Group Lauds DSS Over Successful Crackdown On Dealers Of Adulterated Engine Oil

Following the successful raids and clampdown on dealers of adulterated engine oil in the market by the Department of State Services, some of the foremost motor and spare parts dealers have commended the Agency form its proactive move to safe motorists in the country.

One of the associations that lauded the DSS over its’ recent clampdown on dealers of adulterated engine oil in the market, is the Motor Parts Trading Group in Africa on the aegis of ‘Auto Spare Parts & Machinery Dealers Association (ASPMDA)’, in Trade fair complex, Lagos state.

Operatives of the DSS had recently, in massive raids conducted in the market uncovered four separate production plants where unidentified individuals produce adulterated engine oil and repackage same in gallons of popular brands like Mobil, AP and Total.

 

The association has therefore resolved that any of its members caught dealing on adulterated engine oil or any spare parts, shall forfeit his shops, buildings or plazas in addition to be exited from the association.

Speaking at an emergency meeting on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at its hall in Lagos International Trade Fair complex, Lagos, the President of the Association, Ngozi Emechebe acknowledged the thoroughness and competence of DSS personnel, stating that the group with guidance from the Agency, will commence enumeration of shops and plazas as a means of curbing proliferation of fake products in the market.

Emechebe said the association will rejig its security and surveillance team and provide modern technology coupled with requisite training to track offenders.

According to her; “While we are going to rejig our security and surveillance team with training and modern technology to track offenders, we humbly assure the general public that ASPMDA remains the center of quality auto spare parts and the largest in West and sub-Saharan Africa.

“Aside taking over the shops of products adulterators, we shall hand them over to the Police for prosecution and further make sure they never come back to this market to do any kind of business in their life,” she said.

Also speaking, the former ASPMDA President, Chief Charles Age Okeke lamented the ineptitude of the Security and Surveillance Arm of the group, stressing the urgent need to retrain and restructure its security and surveillance Arm.

Another official of the association, Chief Ofoma, in his contribution, said if members of the association are desirous of telling themselves the truth, members those involved.

                                       

Ofoma said; “This time around, the leadership of ASPMDA must do something different by placing a public announcement in the media distancing the market from any form of adulteration.

“Every landlord of Plaza or shop must Know his/her tenant by forcing every tenant to sign an agreement assuring that he/she will only deal on genuine parts. That whenever he deviates and deals on fake products, he shall be removed from ASPMDA and handed over to the law enforcement agencies,” he said.
