Some deadly gunmen in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, invaded the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), owned Prime FM Station, Lokoja, the Kogi State capital and carted away some valuable broadcast equipment.
Information pieced together indicated that the gunmen on arrival at the station situated at the Jimgbe area of Lokoja, went straight for the only security guard on duty and overpowered him and tied him.
As soon as they took control of the security guard, the quickly moved into the complex housing the FM Station and took away broadcast gadgets that included; high-powered AM Batteries, Transmitter copper, radio frequency amplifier modules, consoles, and some recording handsets.
The General Manager of the Station, Adeiza Momoh-Jimoh while confirming the incident, said the attack had totally paralysed the station’s transmission, saying that it is a really sad development.
Momoh-Jimoh described the incident as “a major attack” on the station, saying major broadcast equipment of the Station were stolen by the dare devil armed criminals.
According to Momoh-Jimoh; “When they came, they grabbed our security man on duty, tied him up before carrying out their nefarious activities”.
The Prime FM General Manager, who is also the National Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), appealed
to security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the culprits and recover the stolen items.
He said; “I am calling on security agencies to double their efforts in apprehending the criminals who have carried out this grievous crime. I have already communicated with our zonal director on this sad development”.
The ugly incident has sparked serious concerns over the growing insecurity in Kogi State, with critical stakeholders tasking the authorities to safeguard needed infrastructure from criminal attacks.
