Gunmen Kill Eight At Plateau Mining Site

Suspected gunmen have killed eight persons in an attack on a mining site at Shawalan Kuru in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau state.

Reports by The Nation said one of the deceased was beheaded. The attack, which was carried out on Friday evening, has thrown the community into mourning, even as the corpses have been handed over to relatives of the deceased.

They were retrieved during a visit to the site by Hon Choji and leader of Jos South Council Hon Emmanuel Jang.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Plateau, A. S Tafida, who represented the Commissioner of Police, condoled with the entire Jos South people, especially the Kuru community.

While appealing for calm and cooperation amongst the people, Tafida urged them to shun taking laws into their hands.

The deputy Commissioner also promised to work with the community leaders to carry out discreet investigations aimed at arresting the perpetrators of the dastardly act. – The Nation
