Gov Lalong Condemns Miners’ Killings In Jos South
Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau has condemned the killing of eight miners in an attack at a mining site in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of the State
A statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Makut Macham, in Jos on Saturday, quoted the governor as describing the incident as an attempt to destabilise the state.
He said the reprehensible act was perpetrated by criminal elements who are out to create fear in the state, warning that state government would not condone such unprovoked attacks and senseless killings of innocent people.
Governor Lalong therefore urged security agencies to fish out perpetrators of the heinous crime, which poses a threat to the substantial peace currently enjoyed in the state.
He said the narratives of so-called ‘unknown gunmen’ excuses would no longer be tolerated from agencies of government in charge of securing lives and property of Nigerian people.
For the governor, it is important that residents of the area assist law enforcement agencies with intelligence gathering on criminal activities across the length and breadth of the state.
According to him, the partnership with security agencies would effectively thrive deploying existing structures such as the traditional institutions; community police constabulary; vigilance groups; and other relevant associations.
Governor Lalong sympathised with the families of those that lost their lives or got injured during the attack, assuring that his government would ensure perpetrators of the criminal act are brought to book for justice to prevail
