Amid recurring killings and deadly attacks on Police personnel and stations in Imo State, the South east state is currently in turmoil as suspected hoodlums invaded the luxurious country home of Governor Hope Uzodinma in Onuma, Oru East Local Government Area of the state and massively damaging the multi-billion Naira property.

In what eyewitnesses described as a calculated attack on the governor’s property, the thugs burnt several cars and other personal items found within the huge compound.

However, latest reports on the attack that took place on Saturday morning said the Governor’s Rolls Royce, parked in the house for years now, was not spared by the invaders’ anger as they left the British luxury automobile in ruins.

According to competent sources, Governor Uzodinma has been out of the state for an undisclosed business in Abuja, but on being briefed about the incident immediately headed back to base to assess the situation on ground

The sources hinted that in the wake of their attack that had the hoodlums setting ablaze the governor’s property, spirited efforts were made by helpless villagers and sympathizers to put out the fire without much success.

Reports also said the attackers, adorning black attires during the raid, left a suspected lifeless body lying in front of the governor’s property that was still in flames as at the time of filing the report.

Confirming the incident, Imo state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, told the nation newspaper; “It is true but the information is not still clear. It is not true that several security men lost their lives. About two security men on duty at the governor’s house were killed. NSCDC personnel was among the security men who lost their lives during the attack.”

Meanwhile, another top government official, who did not want his name in print for obvious reasons, pointed accusing fingers at perceived political opponents as likely sponsors of what he described as “unprovoked attack on the governor and his hard-earned property.” .
