Hunger, Sufferings Will Force Nigerians To Reject Tinubu in 2027 – Amaechi
Former governor of Rivers State, Hon Rotimi Amaechi, has said that the effect of the astronomical rising hunger, unbearable sufferings and growing public dissatisfaction would force Nigerians to reject President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
Amaechi, who was also minister of Transportation in the former President Muhammadu Buhari administration, noted that there are enough concerns across the country for the opposition can effectively lash to remove President Tinubu from office in the next election.
Amaechi, who stated these on Saturday, May 3, 2025, while speaking at his 60th birthday celebration in Abuja, said all Nigerians are hungry and no one is exempted.
He said; “We are all hungry. All of us are. If you are not hungry, I am. So, for us the opposition, if you want us to remove the man in power (Tinubu), we can remove him from this power.”
Amaechi, who spoke on the challenges facing the nation, did a retrospect on the potential strength of a united opposition and recounted his role in organizing nationwide protests against former military leaders Ibrahim Babangida and Muhammadu Buhari during his student’s activism.
He noted that Nigerian students once stood together regardless of ethnic background, they organised the Tai Solarin protest against General Babangida’s regime and also organized protests against General Buhari.
According to Amaechi; “Back then, there was no North and South among us. Students’ leaders coordinated protest actions across major universities, held strategic meetings in Kano and staged simultaneous demonstrations at institutions like Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), and University of Lagos (UNILAG).
“You would see young, handsome Northerners and Southerners eating together, feeling free with one another. But today, we have poisoned the minds of our young men. They can’t even liberate themselves — we were able to liberate ourselves,” he said.
Amaechi expressed serious concern over the current state of political division among Nigerian youth, stressing that urgent steps needed to be taken to address it in the overall interest of Nigeria’s needed unity.
