Husband, Wife In Court Over Alleged Suicide Attempt
For an alleged attempt to take her life, an enraged husband, Mr Yemi Ogayemi, has dragged his wife, Fumi, before a Customary Court in Jikwoyi, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
The petitioner also claimed that there is an imminent threat to his life and only an urgent dissolution of the marriage would save the lives of both parties.
Ogayemi, who resides in Jikwoyi area of the nation’s capital, made the allegation in the divorce suit filed against his wife before the court on Friday, January 29, 2021.
According to Mr Ogayemi’s deposition, “I can’t continue to live under the same roof with this woman, she wants to kill me.
“There was a little misunderstanding between us, she ran to the kitchen and picked up a knife to stab me, luckily I escaped.”
The petitioner further told the court that his wife thereafter threatened that “she will stab herself and tell the world I did.
“I beg this honourable court to put an end to the marriage between me and my wife before she kills me or herself.”
He also claimed that his wife used scissors to destroy all his expensive clothes and shoes.
Furthermore, Mr Ogayemi alleged thus; “She asked me to give her N7,000 to make her hair. I pleaded with her to manage N3,000, that’s what I can afford at the moment.
“She collected the money without any grudge, only for me to come back from work to see all my expensive suits and shoes destroyed with scissors.”
The visibly disturbed husband therefore urged the court to dissolve the marriage in order to save him from an early death.
However, in her defence, the respondent, Mrs Fummi Ogayemi, who is a full-time housewife, admitted the allegations brought against him by her furious husband.
She told the Court thus; “I did all that my husband said. I have begged him to forgive me and he said he has forgiven me. I, therefore, wondered why he is saying it here again.”
After listening to submissions by both sides, the trial Judge, Jemilu Jega adjourned the matter to March 9, for judgment. – With agency reports
