I Quit For PDP’s Unity – Former BoT Chair, Jibrin
BY VICTOR BUORO – With political campaigns now gathering momentum, former Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Walid Jibrin, says his resignation from office was for the unity and oneness of the party going into the 2023 general elections.
Opening up on his decision to quit as BOT chairman, Senator Jibrin said it was meant to create “unity for the party” and importantly to ensure the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar emerged victorious in next year’s polls.
In a statement released to journalists in Kaduna State on Monday, the Elder statesman said; “We should never be sectional at all. If I left my position to allow others, based on my concern for Nigeria, and our party to be stronger, so, I have no regret of relinquishing my position.”
Senator Jibrin said there was no time to waste on irrelevant matters if the PDP is serious about recapturing power at the centre through the ballot in 2023, even as he charged members of the recently inaugurated Atiku-Okawa Presidential Campaign Council to immediately hit the ground running ahead of the 2023 election.
He stated that rather than the daily spectacle of flowery speech-making and television interviews in Abuja, it is important for the Campaign Council members to be in their respective states to work and deliver votes for the PDP flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar.
According to Jibrin, recently appointed to lead the Nasarawa State Presidential Campaign Council, members staying put in Abuja instead of being in their states for campaigns would be detrimental to the party’s chances of succeeding at the polls.
However, promising that the PDP was ready for issue-based campaigns, Senator Jibrin also assured that the current crises rocking the party, particularly as it involves the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and other aggrieved members were surmountable.
Deploying the now familiar PDP’s phrase of ‘normal family affairs’ to describe “what is happening in the party”, the ex-BoT Chairman said all the crises bedeviling the party ahead of the 2023 general election would soon be a thing of the past.
“And I want to assure Nigerians that what is happening in PDP is never a problem but a normal family matter that would be solved very soon. Never, ever mention that PDP has any problem.
“We shall soon take over from the ruling party. Nigeria shall move forward. Cheers. May God bless all of us,” the Elder statesman said in his statement.
