Man Dies From ‘Ogogoro’ Drinking Spree

• After gulping nine bottles of local gin

Tragedy struck in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, as an unidentified man who made huge boast about his drinking prowess did not live to tell the story of that bragging adventure.

Before meeting his untimely death, the man had openly boasted of his capacity to consume eleven bottles of locally brewed alcoholic drink popularly referred to as ‘Ogogoro’ without getting intoxicated.

But in the process of making good his swaggering, the unexpected happened, according to Hafsat Abubakar of the Conflict Mediation Mitigation Regional Council (CMMRC) Plateau Chapter.

It was gathered that the man had requested the local gin seller to give him 11 bottles of the ‘Ogogoro’, vowing he would finish them without anything untoward happening to him.

Further narrating the unfortunate incident to The Nation, Abubakar said the man actually succeeded in gulping down nine bottles of the local ‘spirit’ but could not attend to the remaining two as promised.

Reports indicated that with the man suddenly giving up the ghost, the confused wine seller hurriedly packed up her remaining wares and fled from the area.

An eyewitness account said before the man eventually passed on, he was vomiting blood profusely from his nose, ears, and mouth, adding that shocked at the sight of the dying man, a local hunter, who was around the vicinity quickly alerted the villagers of the unfortunate incident.

However, before help could come his way, the man said to be married with a wife and five children, was confirmed dead by the local medics.

He was immediately taken for burial in line with the traditional rites of the people. – With The Nation report
