Inauguration: Tinubu, Shettima Take Over As President, Vice President
BY EDMOND ODOK – Amid cheers and claps, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima both took their oaths of office at Eagle Square in Abuja as the President and Vice President respectively.
With this development, Tinubu has become the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces and the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN)
Chief Justice of the Federation, Olukayode Ariwoola administered the oath of office on President Tinubu at 10:40 am, shortly after the Vice President took his oath of office, according to official protocols.
The arena broke into jubilation with various songs renting the air as the name of Tinubu was mentioned and his oath-taking happened at at exactly 10:37 am with the promise of sticking to the provisions of the Nigerian constitution.
Alongside his wife, Senator Oluremi, Asiwaju Tinubu mounted the rostrum with former President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife, Aisha Buhari standing behind them during the oath-taking ceremony.
Pledging to put the nation’s interest far above his, he said; “I’ll not allow my personal interest to interfere with the national interest”.
Away from the colourful ceremony, Tinubu’s declaration as the winner of the February 25, 2023, presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is currently being challenged at the Presidential Elections Petition Tribunal (PEPT)
As the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer, Asiwaju Tinubu was scored by INEC as polling a total of 8,794,726 votes to defeat his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who was credited with a total of 6,984,520 votes with Labour Party (LP) Standard bearer, Peter Obi of the Labour Party in third place with a total of 6,101,533 votes to his credit.
