The Kano State Hisbah Board has been given a 60-day ultimatum to facilitate the marriage between two popular Tik-Tok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda or face the consequences of being held in contempt of court order.
The order came a Magistrate Court sitting in Kano following the duo’s appearance in recent viral videos which the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board (KSFVCB) considered as “indecent”
In the contentious video clips showing both TikTokers displaying romantic gestures, the authorities had described their behaviour as unacceptable and being contrary to the moral as well as religious values upheld in the state.
Magistrate Halima Wali, who presided over the matter on Monday, warned that failure to conduct the marriage within the stipulated timeframe of 60 days would be treated as contempt of court.
Additionally, the court mandated the Chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board to oversee the implementation of the marriage order.
According to documents available, the two TikTokers were arraigned before the Court for allegedly producing and circulating obscene content on social media in recent weeks.
The latest development came on the heels of Mai Wushirya’s earlier remand in a correctional facility after clips went viral showing him engaging in what authorities described as “immoral and demeaning acts” with the female content creator.
The Censorship Board said the controversial videos violated Kano state laws prohibiting the production and distribution of sexually suggestive or obscene materials.
