- Gov Fintiri, Sen Binani in titanic battle
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Adamawa State governorship election held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 inconclusive.
The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Mohammed Alaminu Mele, announced this at the state collation centre in Yola, the Adamawa State capital on Monday night.
Prof Mele, who is the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, University of Maiduguri, said election did not hold in 47 wards across 21 Local Government Areas of the State, hence a winner could not be declared by the Commission.
According to the results so far released by the electoral umpire, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was leading Senator Aisha Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election which could not be decided on the first ballot.
Before INEC’s declaration of the election inconclusive, results from 20 out of the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) had been announced, with the State Governor and candidate of the PDP, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintri, in the lead.
