Insecurity: Female Suicide Bomber Kills 24 In Borno

A female terrorist has reportedly killed not lest than 24 people and injured several others in a suicide bomb attack at Konduga town, located about 36 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

According to the Borno State Police Command, the attack took place around 10:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, when the suicide bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at a popular food joint where many residents had gathered to purchase food.

Confirming the unfortunate incident, Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the explosion claimed 24 lives on the spot, including both men and women, while an unspecified number of people sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Reports indicated that the powerful blast mutilated the attacker’s body as only her head was recovered at the scene.

The reports further said a joint security team comprising personnel from the Military, Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) units, Tactical Teams, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters responded swiftly to secure the area.

It was gathered that the entire area was cordoned off and thoroughly searched for additional explosives, but no further devices were discovered.

Meanwhile, as the authorities moved to restore calm around the affected area, those injured were immediately evacuated to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for medical attention.

This is as remains of the deceased were also deposited at the hospital mortuary, where medical personnel confirmed the deaths.

Sources within the Police and emergency agencies hinted that efforts are already on to identify and profile the victims, while arrangements would be made to release the bodies to their families for burial in accordance with religious practices.

Also, the source said there is security alert across Konduga and surrounding areas in order to prevent any further attacks.
