…Condemns Kano bomb explosion, Plateau, Kebbi killings

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Mr Peter Obi has expressed deep concern over the recent spate of killings of unarmed and innocent people across some States of the country.

Obi said that Nigeria must begin to treat insecurity as an utmost national priority, noting that when Nigerians speak about fixing these constant killings in the country, and the corruption that has entrenched the system, they are accused of demarketing the nation.

He pointedly said that it was the unchecked bloodshed and constant unaccountable looting as well the fact that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration has continuously allowed insecurity to thrive that de-markets Nigeria.

The former governor of Anambra State, also expressed regret that the regularity of bloodletting of innocent souls in Nigeria has drastically reduced the news value of human deaths.

Obi, who took to his official 𝕏 handle on Saturday evening, regretted the death of five people in Saturday’s bomb explosion in Kano and also the 12 wedding guests that were killed on Friday by gunmen in Plateau State leaving many injured.

He noted that a glance at the news in a day in Nigeria, usually reveals the sad reality of the nation, stressing that one therefore wonders if the country has a serious government in place.

Obi further said; “Even hitherto peaceful areas have turned into killing fields. From Kano today comes a bomb explosion that has left at least 5 persons dead, many injured. And just yesterday, 12 wedding guests were attacked and killed in Plateau, and 11 others were injured.

“In Kebbi, 30 people were confirmed dead as bandits went on a rampage. In Borno, a female suicide bomber killed 24 citizens. In Katsina, bandits gunned down a police inspector. “All of this just in a day, for a country that is not even at war. And there are many other unreported cases as the incidents are spreading to all nooks and crannies of the country.

“The world is watching. People see these killings and corruption all over. Allowing these insecurities and corruption to continue is the real demarketing. What shows our nation’s seriousness is not empty statements but action from our leaders.

“But, while the country bleeds daily, Mr. President is reportedly planning a holiday trip to St. Lucia; meanwhile, insecurity in our nation is not on holiday. The grief of Nigerians should not be paused for luxury trips. We must tackle this insecurity now. It is destroying lives and demarketing our nation.

“All hands must be on deck. The only trip the president should be planning is to these States to see the havoc and strategise ways to end the killings and save Nigerian lives.

“We must act now to save our country. Nigerians deserve to live. A new Nigeria is POssible,” Obi said.
