President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday, June 22, 2025, declared that freedom of movement in Nigeria by all citizens is non-negotiable.
The President who stated this while reacting to the killing of some travellers in Plateau State, warned that the federal government will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear.
He said that the Government of Plateau State must take decisive action in handling the vicious cycles of violence in the state.
Tinubu, who stated these while reacting to the killing of some travellers who were wedding guests in Plateau State, further directed security agencies to arrest and ensure adequate punishment for the culprits involved in the killing of travellers.
The President also urged the Plateau State government to work with security agents to get to the root of the recent incident and use it as a deterrent against future occurrences.
Tinubu while condemning the killing of the travellers, however, called for calm, promising not to allow the dastardly act to go unpunished.
While reacting to the news of the murder of 12 wedding guests, including the father and brother of the groom, President Tinubu described the heinous action as unacceptable and barbaric.
A statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy to the President, noted that the victims, many of them injured, were travelling from Zaria, in Kaduna State, to Jos, in Plateau State.
Tinubu particularly directed the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to work with other security and intelligence agencies to ensure those responsible for the attack are held accountable.
He said; “Freedom of movement by all citizens is non-negotiable. We will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear”.
The President commiserated with the victims’ families and the people and government of Kaduna State.
