BY AMOS TAUNA, KADUNA – Former governor of Kaduna State, Senator Mohammed Ahmed Makarfi, has that the episode of Kasuwar Magani in Kajuru Local Government Area and the resultant spillover and skirmishes in Kaduna are serious setback in the quest for lasting peace in the state.

Makarfi, who was National Caretaker Committee chairman and later a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed dismay over what he described as the “sad and unfortunate” crisis that happened in Kasuwar Magani and the resultant spillover and skirmishes in Kaduna, stressing that the mayhem has given great cause for concern.

Senator Makarfi, who stated this in a statement issued by his media aide, Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo,  said he is pained that after having come this far, some of people still find it difficult to settle disputes without resorting to violence, with all the history at our disposal, which teaches us that much as human society cannot permanently live without one form of conflict or another, resort to arms has never been the solution.”

The former governor of Kaduna State appealed to the people to always eschew violence and embrace the time-tested process of constructive engagement through dialogue with one another, which he noted has always proven to be a more effective and sustainable conflict resolution mechanism.

Makarfi commended the role played by the various security agencies, as well as community and religious leaders in facilitating a return to normalcy just as he condoled with the government and people of Kaduna State and families who lost their dear ones.

He also commiserated with those injured and others who suffered losses on account of the unfortunate incidents.
