Kajuru Killings: Kaduna PDP Gubernatorial Running Mate Calls For Assistance
BY AMOS TAUNA, KADUNA – The member representing Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon Sunday Marshal Katung, has called on individuals and organizations in Kaduna state and the country as a whole to come to the rescue of victims of recent Kajuru local government attacks.
The House member, who was also the running mate to the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the last election, said the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), were in a critical situation that need urgent assistance from individuals and organizations to address the agony they are going through in life.
The House member, who used the occasion to commemorate his birthday with victims of Kajuru attacks living in an IDP camp in Sabon-Tasha, Kaduna, donated relief materials worth millions of naira to the affected victims.
Speaking during the formal presentation of the relief materials to the victims, Mr Katung also expressed sadness over the incessant attacks and killings of innocent citizens in the area and urged privileged Kaduna citizens and Nigerians to help the affected victims with food items and other necessary relief materials that would enable them return to their ancestral homes.
According the lawmaker, “The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), need our support during this time of their travail. It is very unfortunate that human beings have to suffer the way these people are suffering. It should not be so in a civilized society like Nigeria.
“They are our brothers and we need to show them love and support, and equally help them return to their homes in order to continue with the normal way of life they know, stressing that there is no need these people become internally displaced in their own state.
“Our prayer is for this not to happen again, we are here to show solidarity and concern for the displaced persons here and as well give the little we have to cushion the suffering they are going through.
“We should do everything to help them go back to their homes, especially when the sanitary and living conditions they found them are poor.
“People have done quite a lot, but it is not enough, any amount given no matter how little it is will go a long way to touch their lives and make them have a sense of belonging.”
Responding, the National President Southern Kaduna People’s Union, SOKAPU, thanked Sunday Katung Marshal for his support to the IDPs and called on others to emulate the good gesture in order to give the victims hope of life.
Among the relief items donated are 40 bags of maize, 150 bags of (10kg) rice, 5 tins of (25litres) palm oil and 20 cartons of soap.
Others are 30 pieces of large and medium mats, 20 bundles of roofing sheets and a donation of #500,000 cash for health and medical intervention.
