The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Kano State chapter has described as undemocratic and evil Saturday’s attack on its gubernatorial candidate, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, allegedly orchestrated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas.
Engineer Yusuf was attacked during the Presidential and National Assembly elections as he and other voters were at Chiranchi quarters polling unit in Gwale local government area of the State waiting for their turns to cast votes.
Reports said the APC chairman suddenly appeared at the scene with some thugs in their hundreds, chanting war songs and started throwing stones in a bid to disrupt the peaceful exercise and scare the voters away.
A statement signed by the NNPP Campaign Council’s Chief Spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said while no case of injury was recorded, it took the quick intervention of the Police and other security agencies at the scene, who shot sporadically in the air, to scare away the assailants and restore peace at the scene.
The NNPP flag bearer applauded the maturity and patience exhibited by the NNPP supporters at the scene, particularly for not retaliating and taking laws into their hands.
He assured the general public that the NNPP’s members and supporters will remain patriotic and respect the law during and after the general elections.
The Gubernatorial candidate, who cast his vote at Chiranchi 005 Polling Unit in Gwale Local Government Area of the State, urged all voters to be law-abiding at all times in the face of any provocation.
Furthermore, Engr Yusuf tasked all those residing in Kano State to expose and report all criminal elements, who have devised sinister means, including electoral violence and intimidation, to manipulate the 2023 election results.
