- As Lille stumble 0-2 at Stamford Bridge
France International and Chelsea man of the match midfielder, N’Golo Kante has been described as the team’s “game-changer” by Head coach, Thomas Tuchel after he delivered another inspiring performance that aided their fifth consecutive home clean sheet in this year’s Champions League.
Having not conceded in their past five European matches at Stamford Bridge, Kante shone like a million stars with the Blues producing the longest-ever home clean sheet streak in the competition among English sides.
With their 2-0 victory over Lille on Tuesday, Tuchel said Kante has finally reached his best form after dealing with injuries earlier in the campaign.
He told BT Sport after the game that; “I was very pleased today, it took him a while. He struggled in the last matches with his belief and intensity and game in general.
“It was good he stepped up today and you can instantly see the impact he makes. He is our game changer. He had a huge impact on the team.”
Since taking charge at Stamford Bridge in January last year, Tuchel has led Chelsea to keep 39 clean sheets in all competitions, more than any other side in Europe’s big five leagues.
In the process, the Senegalese goalkeeper and African Nations Cup (AFCON) winner, Edouard Mendy has kept a clean slate in 14 of his 18 starts in the Champions League. The record is the highest clean-slate ratio of any goalkeeper with at least five starts in the competition’s history. – With Goal.com report
