Kogi Assembly Impeaches Dep Governor Achuba
As speculated in the public space for a while now, the Kogi State House of Assembly (KSHA) has formally sacked the State Deputy Governor, Mr Simon Achuba from office.
Mr Achuba was impeached by members of the House on Friday in Lokoja, the state capital.
The House of Assembly took the decision shortly after it received and considered the report of a judicial panel of enquiry set up by the Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Nasir Ajanah.
According to the House Leader, Hassan Bello Abdulahi, representing Ajaokuta state constituency, Achuba was impeached following consideration of the report of the John Bayeshea-led committee.
He said the report was accepted and adopted by the lawmakers after unanimously agreeing to impeach Achuba and “he therefore stands impeached.”
The Committee was inaugurated on August 26 to probe allegations of gross misconduct leveled against the Deputy Governor.
The embattled Achuba had accused Governor Yahaya Bello of withholding his salaries and allowances since 2017, but the government dismissed the allegation as untrue during hearing by the committee.
