Landlord In Court Over Removal Of Tenants’ Roofing Sheets
For allegedly removing the roofing sheets in his tenant’s apartment, a 51-year-old landlord, Abolaji Ismahil, on Tuesday landed himself in a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
However, Ismahil, who lives in the Mushin area of Lagos State, pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy, breach of the public peace, and theft filed against him by the Police.
The prosecution counsel, Inspector Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that Ismahil and some others, now at large, committed the offence on December 13, 2023, at No 40, Kekereowo St., Itire, Surulere Lagos.
He alleged that Ismahil not only removed ten zinc roofing sheets from the apartment of the complainant, Lawal Ismail, but also destroyed the roofing material, after several failed attempts to get the complainant to pay his rent.
According to him, the complainant also reported that his HP laptops, a gold chain, and two wristwatches were stolen from his apartment, adding that the offence contravened sections 168, 287, and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate, Mr Ganiyu Tiamiyu, who admitted Ismahil to bail in the sum of N100,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum, ordered that the sureties must have their addresses verified by the court and adjourned the case until 13th March 2024, for mention. – NAN report
