Anger and emotions are still running wild among many football fans over the injury sustained by Liverpool’s star, Mohamed Salah, with an Egyptian lawyer, Bassem Wahba, suing Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos for a whopping €1 billion.
The lawyer is seeking damages from Ramos following the shoulder injury he caused the Egypt soccer idol in a challenge during Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final.
Salah landed awkwardly on his left shoulder after grappling with the Real Madrid captain during the Kiev showpiece and ligament damage around the joint is now placing doubts on his World Cup participation.
Though the Premier League Golden Boot winner twitted on Sunday that he was ‘confident’ of representing Hector Cuper’s side at Russia 2018, the message has not done much to assuage the evident anger of Egyptian legal practitioner, Bassem Wahba.
Appearing on Egyptian television channel, Sada El-Balad, Wahba announced he had filed a complaint to FIFA, accusing Ramos of a deliberate act and inflicting “physical and psychological harm” upon a nation and its most celebrated footballer.
Many Egyptians and Salah’s fans across the global have taken interest in the lawsuit against Ramos, describing it as not only novel, but a test case that could easily rein in some players who deliberately seek to inflict injuries on gifted opponents to keep them and their teams in check during matches.
The Liverpool’s forward had gone down heavily under the Spanish defender’s stifling confrontation and was thereafter forced off the pitch after hurting his shoulder during the UEFA Champions League final football tie at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev, Ukraine on Saturday, May 26, 2018. – With agency reports
