The Presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) and Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has stated that he would continue to maintain a clean campaign based on issues and not attack on personalities.

Engr. Makinde, who stated this while debunking allegations that he insulted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a town hall meeting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, pointedly said that his remarks were not in any way directed at President Tinubu.

The APM Presidential candidate’s response followed an unwarranted accusation by an activist, Sunday Igboho, who alleged that Governor Makinde made offensive comments about Tinubu while addressing a gathering at the Akure Town Hall meeting.

A statement published on Makinde’s official X account stated that at no time did he mention President Tinubu by name at the meeting.

The statement further stressed that Engr Makinde was speaking generally about people seeking election to the presidency, thus threw a challenge to presidential hopefuls, and not an attack on the President.

It further stated; “At no point did Seyi Makinde mention President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s name in such comparison during the town hall meeting.

“He only threw a general challenge to presidential candidates,” the statement said.

The camp of the Presidential hopeful therefore dismissed Igboho’s interpretation, insisting that it did not reflect the context or intent of the governor’s remarks.

Igboho had alleged that Makinde’s comments was targeted at Tinubu, but the APM Presidential candidate’s camp emphasized that President Tinubu was not mentioned in the statement at the Akure event.

The clarification comes as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections as the campaign train of the APM Presidential candidate outings recorded huge success at all the State capitals where his Town Hall meetings held.

The Town Hall meetings of the APM Presidential Candidate took place in the six geopolitical zones of the country from Katsina in the North West zone to Lafia in North Central, before moving to Yola in the North East and later Uyo in the South-South, Akure in the South West and Enugu in the South East geo-political zone.
