BY CHINYERE OBIORA – Less than 24 hours after regaining freedom from the kidnappers’ den, Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Dr Sam Uche, on Tuesday said their abductors collected N100 million as ransom before their release.

The Prelate was kidnapped alongside the Bishop of Owerri Diocese and his chaplain last Sunday on their was from a church programme in Okigwe, Imo State to Isuochi in Umu Nneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.

They were however released unhurt on Monday after spending about 24 hours with the abductors

The clergy, who recounted his experience in a media briefing at the Hoare’s Memorial Methodist Church, Yaba, Lagos on Tuesday, confirmed that the Church had to cough out the whopping amount to secure their freedom.

According to him, the ransom money was arranged in five sacks of N20 million in each sack.

The Methodist Prelate lamented that neither the federal, state governments nor even the security operatives made efforts to secure his release as their ordeal in the kidnappers’ den lasted.
