The African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, mocked the former Kogi West Senator and Spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, Dino Melaye, over his N500,000 cash donation at a recent event.

In a mild drama that played out during the night of tribute in honour of the late human rights activist, Ariyo Dare-Atoye, popularly called Aristotle, in Abuja on Saturday, Sowore throw a jab at Melaye, who pledged the amount as his annual donation to a foundation established for the children of the deceased.

Making a veil reference to what many consider as the fear of the CBN planned Naira notes’ redesigning, AAC standard bearer said with the apex bank’s decision to redesign the naira notes, politicians are now moving around with cash looking for avenues to dispense such.

Taking a jab at the Kogi State-born former lawmaker, Sowore said; “You can already see the effect of the Central Bank’s decision to redesign the naira. Now politicians are carrying cash in the daytime.”

Senator Melaye, while eulogizing the late Dare-Atoye, had donated N500,000 to a foundation set up for the deceased’s children, explaining that the amount in cash would be presented at the event.

The PDP Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson said; “I was told that there is a plan for a foundation; an education foundation for the children, and I am so impressed about that. I am making a pledge that I would give an annual donation of N500,000 to that foundation. I brought the first part of it, N500,000.”

Recalling how selfless the deceased was during his lifetime, Dino further said; “Severally, he was in my house, and he never came for himself. He always asked me to assist others. He never asked me for anything.

“I spoke to my brothers, Deji and Tosin, and they told me about a planned education foundation for the children. I’m pledging an annual donation of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000) to the Foundation, and I brought the first part of it.”

The Naira denominations pencilled down for redesign as announced by the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, are N200, N500, and N1000 notes and the new policy would take effect in December.
