Nami Resumes As FIRS Boss, Pledges Improved Revenue Profile

BY COBHAM NSA, ABUJA – Newly appointed Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Muhammad Nami has unfolded his plans for effective mandate delivery by the organisation.

Addressing the workers following his assumption of office at the FIRS Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, Nami said  his vision and mission will centre on delivering President Muhammadu Buhari’s goal of improved revenue accruals for the country

He said the mandate is to promote teamwork within the FIRS family as well as synergy among all Stakeholders in order to further expand the nation’s revenue base and sources 

According to the FIRS boss, “As we work together to build capacity and raise revenue for the country,  the task, as enormous as it is, requires masterstroke measures, resilience in policy implementation and foresight to evolve novel ideas. 

“I shall spare no effort to summon the courage to actualise this task. Most times, success is borne out of the will to endure hardship such as tax drive entails.”

Nami, who promised to focus attention on improved workers’ welfare, said respite has come the way of the FIRS’ staff, especially the hardworking and those that maintained professionalism in their performance.

In his remarks at the occasion, immediate past Acting Executive Chairman of the Service, Abiodun Aina, commended the staff for their support and cooperation in handing over a peaceful and united Service to the new Chairman, Nami.

Abiodun acted for about two weeks as Nami awaited the Senate’s confirmation of his appointment that eventually came on Wednesday, December 18. 2019.

The Muhammadu Buhari’s presidency refused to grant embattled Babatunde Fowler a second four-year term in office by forwarding the name of Nami to the Senate on December 9, the same date that Fowler’s first term expired.
