BY BABA AHME, LAFIA – The Nasarawa state Ta’al Model Primary schools jointly funded by the Universal Basic Education commission UBEC and the Nasarawa state government are experiencing imminent collapse.
The popular Ta’al model schools which is an acronym of the state governor’s name are presently in serious state of comatose as most of them might cease to exist beyond the governor’s second term in office owing to substandard execution of the projects.
Most of the schools which are a one-storey building and located in various parts of the state have caved in due to structural defects in both designs and construction.
The schools which were celebrated during the first tenure of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura have shown signs of total collapse with parents
withdrawing their children before the holidays for fear of collapse during school hours to avoid casualty.
Checks by Forefront News shows that the Ta’al Model School along Jos Road, Lafia, the state capital has caved in with renovation works currently on-going while that of Nasarawa Eggon Local Government which was commissioned for use few months ago has completely decayed and also undergoing renovation.
Similarly, one of the schools located in Tudun Wada area of new Karshi close to the Agricultural Ghow ground in Karu Local Government Area was just about 50 percent completed when the contractor abandoned it and left.
In the same vein, the school located in Ado junction of Karu Local Government is presently in bad shape to such an extent that school pupils which the project was supposed to serve have now turned it into a toilet thereby completely becomes a menace to the school environment.
Efforts made to speak to the Nasarawa state chairman of Universal Basic Education, Danazumi Mohammed was unsuccessful as he was said to be in Cuba with the state governor on an official assignment.
