BY COBHAM NSA, ABUJA – The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has emerged the first Nigerian public sector organization to bag three International Standards Organization (ISO) certifications by the British Standards Institute (BSI) simultaneously.
The milestone achievement was celebrated in Abuja with the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, represented by the Lead Trade Adviser for Education Sector Opportunities, Ms Natasha Anjekwu, presenting the three certificates to the Corporation
A statement by NDIC’s Head, Communication and Public Affairs, M. K. Ibrahim said the three certifications achieved by the Commission are on Information Security Management System ISO/IEC 27001:2013; IT Service Management System ISO/IEC 200001:2011; and Business Continuity Management System ISO22301:2012.
Speaking on the development, National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), SERVICOM, Office in the Presidency, Mrs Nnenna Akajameli applauded NDIC and described the endorsement as a landmark feat.
She urged the Corporation to consider the certifications as great valuable assets that should motivate it to greater height of performance.
Akajameli promised that SERVICOM Office will project NDIC as a model to other public institutions in its efforts to optimise service delivery among public sector establishments in the country.
In her remarks, the British High Commissioner’s representative, Ms Natasha Anjekwu described the feat as a great achievement.
According to her, NDIC’s fulfilment of the requirement for certification bore eloquent testimony of the Commission’s strong adherence to international best practice in its operations.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Minister of Finance’s representative and Director of Home Finance in the Ministry, Mrs Olubunmi Siyanbola, lauded the Corporation and charged the management to use the development as a stepping stone towards achieving greater heights.
Responding on behalf of the Corporation, Managing Director and Chief Executive, Umaru Ibrahim reiterated NDIC’s commitment to lead in addressing the challenges of the financial services industry in Nigeria towards engendering professionalism and accountability.
He expressed delight at the Corporation’s emergence as the first public institution in Nigeria to be certified with the three standards at once, adding that the feat was consistent with the implementation of its renewable 5-year strategic plan, and its desire to be the best deposit insurer in the world by year 2020.
He assured that NDIC would not rest on its oars in maintaining the high standard it has set for itself.
The Corporation successfully obtained the three ISO Certifications from the BSI in 2017 after a rigorous process of satisfying the conditions precedent to accreditation. The BSI, UK thoroughly engaged and audited the Corporation operational processes between April and July to determine the NDIC’s conformity to the standards.
By these achievements, NDIC is poised to enhance its operational readiness to deliver on the core mandate of continuously improving on service delivery to meet stakeholders’ expectations through sound information security, efficient IT management system and a robust business continuity system.
The Corporation is also determined to improve information deliverables, availability and efficient services, effective communication as well as sound internal processes aimed at further engendering public confidence in the banking system to deepen financial system stability in the country.
