BY NGOZI NWANKWO, ABUJA – The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the 2024 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE).
Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tanko Sununu, who announced the release in the Ministry on Tuesday, said out of the maximum obtainable score of 210, one candidate obtained the highest score of 203.
Giving the highlights of the NCEE results, Dr Sununu said 71,291 candidates registered for 2024 NCEE while 66,931 candidates sat for the examination with 4,360 recorded as absentees.
Commenting on examination malpractices, Sununu noted that this year recorded an unprecedented number of 52 candidates (2 candidates from Lagos State and 50 candidates from Rivers State) were involved in examination malpractices.
The minister further said that the highlights of the FGA, showed that 2,649 candidates registered for the examination out of which 2,336 candidates sat for the examination while 313 candidates were absent, adding that the highest score was 180 while the lowest was 5.
Sununu said the admission criteria for selection of qualified candidates into Federal Unity Colleges remains 60 percent merit, 30 percent equality and 10 percent exigency.
The minister said that now that the results have been released, the Senior Secondary Education Department would ensure that all admission processes are concluded timely and in line with the laid down criteria.
He further said; “As you are all aware, it is a common knowledge that our Federal Unity Colleges have become the first port of call for most parents in the country.
“I want to assure all Nigerian parents that government will continue to do her best to improve on infrastructural development, feeding and teacher quality for effective teaching and learning in our Colleges,” Sununu assured.
It was gathered that the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE), is a highly competitive examination which is administered every year to Nigerian children both at home and abroad that desire to gain admission into the 155 Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) spread across parts of the country.
Meanwhile, this year’s edition of the examination was written on Saturday 1st June, 2024 in Nigeria, as well as Benin Republic and Togo.
