Nigeria, Cameroon Set To Deepen Collaboration In Telecoms Services

As part of commitment to further enhance, deepen regional collaboration and strengthen digital development across Central and West Africa, the Director-General of Cameroon’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ART), Philemon Zoo Zame, paid a working visit to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in Abuja.

Zame, who led a delegation on the visit was received by the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida.

During the engagement, officials of both regulatory agencies exchanged varied views on key industry issues that included; cybersecurity, spectrum management, infrastructure development, consumer protection among other policies aimed at accelerating digital economy growth.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of stronger cooperation among African telecom regulators in building resilient communications networks and expanding access to digital services across the continent.

In his remarks, Dr. Maida reiterated the NCC’s dedication to regional partnerships and the exchange of expertise to support Africa’s digital growth objectives.
Maida emphasised that stronger cooperation among telecommunications regulators across the continent is essential for developing reliable communications systems and widening access to digital opportunities.

Speaking in turn, Zame commended the NCC for its accomplishments in telecom regulation and the significant progress achieved within Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.

Zame noted that the visit was a valuable learning experience for Cameroon’s regulatory agency to observe effective regulatory practices and apply suitable strategies to improve the sector in Cameroon.

The meeting further highlights the increasing collaboration among African telecom regulatory bodies in encouraging innovation, aligning regulatory frameworks, and fostering long-term growth within Africa’s digital landscape.
