Nollywood Actor Leo Mezie Dies From Kidney Complications
Nollywood has lost another of its prominent names, actor Leo Mezie who reportedly passed on due to kidney complications.
The 46-years-old Mezie died on Saturday, May 14, 2022, following a long battle with the disease that lately truncated his acting career.
He had earlier undergone a transplant about four years ago and was reported to have later done another last week when he developed complications and died along the line.
A colleague and fellow Nollywood star, Chioma Toplis announced Leo’s passing on social media Monday afternoon via her Instagram page.
“Actor Leo Mezie is dead. He died on Saturday in Abuja while recovering from a kidney transplant. His corpse has been moved to Umuahia, his hometown. RIP Leo,” her message read.
Mezie began his burgeoning career in the Nigerian film industry in 1996 and eventually shot into national prominence in 2003, when he starred in the movie, Labista.
In 2010, the actor got married to his sweetheart, Maureen and in the year 2016, he voiced out to friends and fans that he had a kidney problem and they rallied around for the treatment that took him to London, the United Kingdom for surgery.
Unfortunately, his health further deteriorated in 2019 as the ailment recurred and he was admitted to a Lagos hospital for another round of medical care.
