NTA’s Ladi Bala Emerges New NAWOJ President

Ladi Bala of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) has emerged the new National President of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ). She dusted three other candidates on Saturday to win the coveted seat.

The keenly contested election, held in Minna, the Niger State capital, saw Ladi polling 439 votes to beat Aishat Ibrahim who came second with 251 votes.

Two other candidates, Chindaba Danjuma and Ruth Abubakar amassed 85 and 48 votes to place third and fourth respectively in the presidential race.

According to reports reaching Forefront from Minna, other members elected into the NAWOJ National Executives are: Lilian Ogbano – Deputy Vice President; Helen Udofia – National Secretary; and Assistant National Secretary – Yinka Bode-Are

The new team also includes: Fatima Rasheed as Treasurer; Adeola Adekunle – Financial Secretary; Dorothy Abellaga – Internal Auditor, while Omobola Akingbehin, an Assistant Editor-In-Chief with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), emerged as Vice President ‘B’ Zone.

It was an excited Bala who expressed thanks and gratefulness to God Almighty for the hard fought victory.

Pledging to justify the confidence reposed in her and the new executive committee, Ladi appealed to all NAWOJIANS to mend fences and close ranks with the elections now behind them. – With NAN report
