BY SEGUN ADEBAYO, ABUJA – Osun State Governor Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s Chief of Staff, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola has thanked the Osun chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over his emergence as the Party’s flag bearer for the September 22, 2018 gubernatorial election in the State.
He therefore pleaded with his co-contestants at the primary and all Party members to join in the task of winning the state’s governorship poll for APC.
From the governorship primary results, Oyetola scored 127,017 votes to beat 17 other contestants in the race. Coming a distant second was Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr Lasun Yussuff, who polled 21,975 votes, while the Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Najeem Salaam amassed 17,958 votes to place third.
Expressing his appreciation shortly after being declared the winner on Friday night, Oyetola said being humbled by the victory; it was in the interest of members that all hands must be on deck to achieve victory for the Party in September.
“With deep humility and a sense of duty I accept your verdict that I should carry forward the torch of our party in the next elections.
“I assure you that your choice will not be wasted. You have settled for a man steady in his ways, firm in his convictions about the purpose of government, which is to promote the welfare of the people, protect their rights and provide good governance”, the governor’s aide assured.
Oyetola, who assured that the members’ trust in him would be faithfully rewarded, said; “We have only won the battle. The war lies ahead of us. Our opponents from other parties increase their arsenal to fight with us.
“But we are ready. We are tested. Like the broom sweeping away the rot, we are set and ready.”
According to him; “The 60 days plus ahead will not be easy but I am confident in our ability to protect what we have.”
The Chief of Staff also expressed appreciation to the governor, pledging his commitment to ensure continuity and consolidation of efforts by the current administration when eventually elected as governor.
He stated that direct primaries’ success in Osun has placed the party on a path of democratic rejuvenation and rebirth of membership faith in the party.
Results of the primary election were announced at the Party’s secretariat by controversial Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who represented Governor Abdul’azi Yari of Zamfara as Chairman of the Osun APC election panel.
