PDP: Another Court Rejects Anyanwu’s Move To Stop INEC From Effecting Removal
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, rejected the request of the embattled and ousted National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), from giving effect to his removal as the party’s scribe.
The Court presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo, ordered Anyanwu to put INEC and other defendants on notice in the suit to allow it hear their side of the matter.
This was as the Supreme Court on Tuesday, refused Anyanwu’s prayers for a ‘stay of execution’ of the judgement of the Appeal Court which validated the verdict of a High Court that sacked him from office as National Secretary of the PDP.
Anyanwu had through his counsel, Ken Njemanze, SAN, filed an ex-parte application praying the court to stop INEC or its agents from receiving or acting upon correspondences or submissions from the PDP unless signed by him.
Anyanwu also sought an order restraining the PDP Acting National chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagun from forwarding any correspondence, documents, or written submissions to INEC without his signature.
However, after considering his arguments, Justice Ekwo ruled that while a case of urgency had been established, it would however, not grant the requested reliefs through an ex-parte application.
The Court emphasised the need to hear from the defendants before making any orders and therefore directed Anyanwu to serve INEC and Damagun, the court processes and also ordered both parties to appear in court.
Justice Ekwo thereafter set February 24, as the date for hearing the case.
