The embattled acting National chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Ilyasu Damagum has been accused of fueling the crisis in the opposition party for his own selfish gains.

Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, a chieftain of the Party who made the accusation when he featured on political programme on Arise Television on Sunday, October 13, 2024, challenged Damagum to respond to the rumours making the rounds that he met with President Bola Tinubu in London last week.

Ologbondiyan, who is the immediate past National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, noted that all that matter to Damagum was to remain as the Acting National Chairman of the PDP against the desires of the majority of the leaders and members of the party.

OLogbondiyan, who spoke against the backdrop of the leadership crisis in the PDP, said that it was surprising that Damagum is busy fueling the crisis in the party and refusing to revert to his position as the substantive Deputy National Chairman of the PDP North.

Ologbondiyan said that the latest crisis in the party was deliberately orchestrated which led to the suspension and counter suspensions by different factions of the national leadership.

In the words of Ologbondiyan; “Damagum was properly suspended in accordance with the provisions of the constitution of the PDP. He is only working to frustrate the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party scheduled to hold later in the month of October from holding.

The former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, stressed that there is a big cloud of suspicions around Damagun with regards to his alleged romance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ologbondiyan said; “It is appropriate for Damagum to respond to reports that he met with President Tinubu in London. The allegation is in the public space that he had a meeting with the president last week in London.

“Damagum has not even uttered a word to say it is a lie or it is true. He knows that people are aware”.

Speaking on the claims that Damagum was not properly suspended, Ologbondiyan said that the NWC under the embattled acting national chairman had adopted the system of virtual meetings, the same platform he alleged could have been used in effecting the suspension of the Acting Chairman.

In the words of Ologbondiyan; “He was suspended by his own colleagues in the National Working Committee (NWC). This National Working Committee has been conducting virtual meetings because that has been their pattern of holding meetings”.
