…Threaten to impeach Buhari in six weeks if…
Members of the Senate Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus on Wednesday staged a walkout in protest against the heightening insecurity in Nigeria and refusal of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan to discuss it at plenary.
Led by the Minority Leader, Senator Philip Aduda, the members of the PDP Senate Caucus announced that they have issued President Muhammadu Buhari a six weeks ultimatum within which to resolve terrorists’ attacks in the country or face impeachment.
Aduda, who was flanked by other PDP Senators, told Journalists at a press conference that they walked out of the Senate chambers in protest of the refusal of Lawan to allow the matter to be discussed.
Senator Aduda, who represents the FCT in the red chamber of the National Assembly, said that impeachment issue was raised and discussed during the Senate’s two-hour closed-door, adding however, that the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan was too unwilling to allow the matter to be tabled at the plenary as earlier agreed.
According to Aduda; “The insecurity ravaging the country has to be addressed immediately. It is obvious that even Abuja, the seat of the Federal government is no longer safe as everyone can see.”
The Minority Leader noted that in spite of the various recommendations by the two chambers of the National Assembly on steps that are needed to be taken towards resolving the insecurity challenges, no action has been taken thus, the issue remain unabated.
Aduda therefore vowed that as legislators, they will be committed to impeaching President Buhari if he fails to take the needed action to address the insecurity eating up the country.
In his words; “We went into a closed-door session on the state of insecurity in Abuja and took into cognisance that Nigeria is no longer safe
“We agreed at the closed session that we will give President Muhammadu Buhari an ultimatum, but the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan didn’t want us to raise the issue.
“This Senate and the House of Representatives recommended various measures for implementation but nothing has be done whatsoever. Yet, we discovered that even Abuja is no longer safe.
“However, we have issued six weeks for President Buhari to resolve insecurity or be impeached,” he said.
