The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) has fixed September 6, 2023, as the date it would deliver judgment in the petitions filed against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the presidential flag bearers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).
This was contained in a statement by the Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Umar Bangari, who said that the proceedings will be open to live broadcast by interested television stations.
Bangari said; “In a bid to promote transparency and openness, these judgements will be televised live by interested Television Stations for the public to follow.
“Access to the Court premises will be strictly on accreditation. Only accredited individuals, including counsels and representatives of political parties, will be granted access to the Courtroom. Interested members of the public are advised to watch proceedings from their television sets,” he said.
The Labour Party (LP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and their presidential candidates, had petitioned the tribunal asking for the nullification of the February 2023, election victory of Tinubu as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The chairman of the five-member panel, Justice Haruna Tsammani, had on August 1, 2023, said that following the adoption of their briefs, the PEPC would communicate to the parties in the case a date of the judgement.
Similarly, judgement is also expected to be delivered by the various Election Tribunals in 25 states for governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly election petitions.
