The duo of former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, and former Governor of Kano and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Sunday night, May 3, 2026 formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Their joining the NDC followed their resignation from the African Democratic Party (ADC) on Saturday.
Obi, who was the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and Kwankwaso, also presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in 2023, received the NDC membership cards amid cheers from supporters.
Their registration and issuance with membership card of the NDC followed a closed-door meeting with leaders of their new party on Sunday evening, May 3, 2026.
The two leaders who are known to be working together ahead of the 2027 general elections were welcomed into the NDC by former Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson, who is also the national leader of the party.
This comes amid ongoing political realignments among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
