PDP and APC…battle shifts to Elections tribunal

BY CHAMBERLAIN ODEY, JOS – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate, Senator Jeremiah Useni says his party will certainly approach the Election Tribunal to challenge what he described as the flawed victory of Governor Simon Lalong of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the just-concluded Plateau State gubernatorial election.

Dismissing the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s Returning Officer in Jos, the Plateau State capital, as mere ‘temporary setback’, Senator Useni said having gone through the electoral documents and accompanying processes, the PDP is convinced that the election was massively flawed.

According to him, “thorough review of happenings during the March 9 gubernatorial election as well as March 23 supplementary poll clearly showed that the processes fell short of substantial compliance with electoral rules set by INEC.

“My team and I have gone through both the official results released by INEC and the documents submitted by our own field staff”, and “we have every reason to believe that justice has so far not been done to our people in this election, because of massive rigging and electoral shortcomings.”

The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the Military era expressed the hope that the Election Tribunal will right all the wrongs and restore confidence of the Plateau people in the electoral processes

The PDP flag-bearer, who announced that he and his party have rejected the poll’s result, said; “After due consultation, I hereby state that the results announced by INEC are not acceptable to us”.

He said due processes would be followed to address the perceived injustice, adding; “We have requested our legal team to activate all the due processes to reclaim our cherished mandate.”

“We will pursue this matter diligently. The Restoration Agenda is for the soul of Plateau state, until its glory is restored”, Senator Useni said
