Plateau Killings: Dariye Urges Calm, Condoles Victims


BY CHAMBERLAIN ODEY, JOS – Former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Joshua Dariye has condemned the spate of killings and attacks on unsuspecting communities in the Daffo District of Bokkos local government area of the state.

Dariye, who is the Senator representing Plateau Central senatorial zone in the National Assembly, described as regrettable the needless loss of lives and destruction of property worth billions Naira.

A press statement in Jos titled; ”The Daffo killings: let’s bury the hatchet”, Senator Dariye expressed sadness that the unfortunate occurrences have continued unabated despite assurances from the local government authorities and stakeholders, including elders in the areas following several peace talks among with the warring sides.

The Governor said there was no justification for continued hostilities and carnage unleashed on any group, given that some of these warring groups have lived together for years.

He said dialogue remains key in resolving the lingering crisis in the Bokkos area and other parts of Plateau state where herders and local farmers are having misunderstanding, maintaining that resorting to arms conflicts will not bring the needed solutions to the existing crises.

The lawmaker, who urged all aggressors in the conflicts to sheath their sword, challenged security agents in the state to fish out perpetrators of these gruesome acts and bring them to book.

Senator Dariye warned that his people cannot continue to live at the mercy of heartless bandits, even as he offered condolences to the families of the victims of the wanton killings in Daffo District of his home Bokkos local government area.

He however charged the attacks’ victims to be patient while lasting solutions are being sought to this worrisome development.
