Police Parade Kidnappers Of Gov Bello’s Mum

BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – The Nigeria Police on Tuesday paraded some suspected members of a vicious kidnap-for- ransom/armed robbery gang that were responsible for the kidnapping of the mother of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and robberies in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger and Kogi States.
This is just as the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim K. Idris, has assured of the readiness and determination of the Nigeria Police towards ensuring that all those who engaged in vicious crimes, such as kidnappings, armed robbery and other criminal activities do not escape justice.
Those arrested and paraded by the police include the gang leader, Hon. Iliyasu Suleiman 44-year old who was Councilor in Okene Local Government Area, Dajuma Ibrahim a.k.a. Akpai/Senate age 26-year old, Iliyasu Obadaki a.k.a. Doctor 35 years, Alhaji Nasiru 43 years, Hafiz Yakubu 26 years. Mohammed Jamiu, also known as Bomboy, one of the gang members was killed in a gun duel with SARS.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects include two AK-47 riffles, 20 live cartridges, one Army Camouflage inner wear, two Army camouflage trousers, two Army camouflage caps, one black barret, two plastic guns, three sharp knives, one axe and different charms.
Briefing journalists in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Jimoh Moshood, said sequel to the Inspector General of Police’s directive on kidnappings in Abuja, Niger and Kogi States, the operatives of IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT) swung into action after the arrest of Danladi Ibrahim aka Akpai.
Moshood further said that as a follow-up to the confession by Akpai on several robberies and kidnapping in Kogi, Abuja, and Niger States, including the kidnapping of Governor Yahaya Bello’s mother in Okene Kogi State in 2014, the IRT teams were deployed to Kogi State and eventually three more members of the deadly Kidnapping/terrorist gang were arrested in Okene, Kogi state.
The three are Hon. Iliyasu Suleiman ‘M’ 44-year old native of Okene town and former councilor in Okene LGA. He was the gang leader of the group that kidnapped Governor Yahaya Bello’s mother. Danjuma Ibrahim, also known as Akpai, 26-year old, who was arrested by IRT personnel and later confessed to other several kidnappings and armed robberies in Abuja, Niger and Kogi States. The Police also said that Alhaji Nasiru, who is 43-year old and native of Inike village in Suleja, Niger State, is a member of Danjuma’s robbery gang and keeps custody of the gang’s arms and ammunition just as Hafiz Yakubu ‘M’ 26 years, a native of Okene LGA, arrested is also part of Danjuma’s robbery gang as well as Mohammed Jamiu a.k.a Bomboy that was killed in gun duel with SARS.
The police spokesman said that all the suspects arrested have confessed to the kidnapping of Governor Yahaya Bello’s mother in 2014 and many other robberies and kidnappings in FCT, Kogi and Niger States.
According to Moshood; “Effort is being intensified to arrest other fleeing members of the gang. They will be charged to court on completion of investigation. Members of the public are enjoined to cooperate with the Police personnel deployed in their localities and give useful information to prevent crime and criminality in their localities.”
