The operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in the Federal Capital Territory, on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, sealed off the Wadata Plaza housing the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abuja, using barbed wire.
The police operatives that were deployed in multiple patrol vans, took positions around the complex in the early hours of the day, restricting movement in and out of the secretariat. PDP Staff members, journalists, and party supporters who arrived for routine activities were turned back by policemen who said they were acting on “orders from above.”
The development further heightened tension and viewed as a clear interference of the federal government in the activities of the main opposition party, particularly against the backdrop of the successful takeover of the Secretariat by the newly elected National Working Committee members of the PDP led by Tanimu Taraki.
The police blocked all the access points to the PDP secretariat with patrol vehicles and rolled large coils of razor barbed wire that were strategically deployed to cover all the access roads particularly the main gates thereby halted all administrative and political activities of the party.
In the same vein, police patrol vehicles and trucks were used to block the road leading to the secretariat as well as the exit gate from the building.
Some of the police operatives were seen manning strategic locations around the PDP secretariat and refused any permit to staff members and party officials.
A riot control vehicle was equally stationed adjacent the party secretariat, while security personnel took positions at strategic points.
Two rival groups within the PDP namely the one loyal to the newly elected National Chairman, Taminu Turaki, and another backed by expelled members of the Party led by Nyesom Wike, minister of the FCT, on Tuesday clashed at the party secretariat.
Tension later escalated following the arrival of prominent figures from both sides, the expelled Wike, former National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu on the one side and Turaki, Governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) and Seyi Makinde (Oyo).
