Two Suspects involved In The Murder Of Anambra Lawmaker Escape From Police Station
The Anambra State Police command has deployed human, operational and intelligence assets of the re-arrest of the two suspects involved in the kidnap and murder of a lawmaker who escaped from cell.
The two suspects were allegedly involved in the murder of late Hon Justice Azuka, member representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the State House of Assembly.
The Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, who gave the directive when he received of their escape on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, also directed immediate disciplinary action against the Officers found wanting in the escape of the suspects.
A statement by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State command, said that preliminary information revealed that following the confession of the criminal gang, the two of the suspects were assisting the Police Investigating Officers in an Operation to arrest the receiver and recover the Operational vehicles that the gang used in their deadly activities.
SP Ikenga further said that during the onslaught operation by the Operatives, the suspect (the receiver) was arrested and two vehicles suspected to have been snatched from unsuspecting members of the public were also recovered.
The police spokesperson said that unfortunately, the other two suspects fled the scene, adding that towards this end, commissioner of police, CP Orutugu assured that the Command is on the offensive against every criminal element in the State.
Ikenga said; “Efforts are in top gear to ensure that the suspects are re-arrested and justice served. The erring Officers will also face disciplinary action if found culpable”.
