Poverty Denied Me Shoes As A Teenager – Daddy GO, Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, said God in his infinity mercy transformed his life as poverty ensured that he had no shoes as a teenager.

The highly respected Clergy said his family was so poverty-stricken that even poor people called him poor and it was quite a joyous moment the day his father bought an umbrella as everyone in the house was rejoicing.

Pastor Adeboye, popularly called Daddy GO by both Church members and admirers, spoke during a sermon on Saturday themed ‘Perfect Gift’, and aired on his Facebook page, saying that while growing up, the first 18 years of his life saw him having no shoes to wear.

Maintaining that things can change for the better for those who accept Jesus Christ, the Clergy said; “Some of you who know a little bit about my background, you know when they talk about people coming from a rocky background, that means from a background of hardship. My own rocky background was a rock among the rocks. My father was so poor (that) poor people called him poor.”

According to him; “The elders have a saying when there is hardship for the husband, and hardship for the wife, there must be hardship for the children. The hardship rubbed off on me. For the first 18 years of my life, I had no shoes. My father was so poor.

“The day he bought an umbrella, we were rejoicing. But look at me today, look at what Jesus can do. He can change the poor to the rich; change the unknown to the known.”
