President Tinubu Fumes At CBN, Says Its “Den Of Malfeasance”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given indication of a major cleanings to be carried out at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as part of efforts aimed at strengthening the nation’s monetary policy.

This was as he assured that henceforth, monetary policy shall be for the benefit of all and not the exclusive province of the powerful and wealthy.

President Tinubu, who stated these in his national broadcast marking Nigeria’s 63rd Independence anniversary, described the CBN in a display of anger with happenings at the apex bank, as the “den of malfeasance” and pledged to carry out a thorough housecleaning.

In his words; “I pledged a thorough housecleaning of the den of malfeasance the CBN had become. That housecleaning is well underway.

“A new leadership for the Central Bank has been constituted. Also, my special investigator will soon present his findings on past lapses and how to prevent similar reoccurrences.

“Henceforth, monetary policy shall be for the benefit of all and not the exclusive province of the powerful and wealthy,” he said.

President Tinubu on assumption of office, suspended the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele in June this year and was later arrested and detained by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The President also appointed a special investigator, Mr. Jim Obazee to carry out a thorough probe into the books of the CBN and in September, appointed Mr. Yemi Cardoso as the new Governor of the apex bank.
