The Director General, Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Mr Alex A. Okoh, has given kudos to Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited (SACHOL) as one of the success stories of the Federal Government’s privatisation programme.

He said the great strides by the company after the exercise clearly demonstrate how privatized enterprises should be managed in the overall public interest; noting that the dynamics behind this recorded success could easily be reproduced in other firms.

Speaking during his recent post-privatisation monitoring tour of SAHCOL facilities at its Lagos headquarters, Mr Okoh said, “essentially we want you to know that we are quite pleased with the progress SAHCOL has made so far, which goes to justify the principles of privatisation.”

According to Chukwuma Nwokoh, Head, Public Communications, the BPE’s boss observations during the facility tour reflected the findings of post-privatisation monitoring reports by officials of the Bureau and an adherence to Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) by the core investor.

The BPE boss, who commended company’s management for its efforts in boosting service efficiency, said the full privatisation transaction method adopted in privatising SAHCOL was meant to ensure it had ample opportunity to optimise quality of service delivery devoid of government interference.

In his remarks, Managing Director of SAHCOL, Mr Rizwan Kadri, expressed appreciation to the Bureau for its unwavering support since the privatization was concluded.

Kadri pledged to sustain effective collaboration with the BPE as part of management’s drive to consistently keep up with the standards as enunciated in the SPA, adding that SAHCOL, being an aviation ground handling company, has ensured continuous upgrade in passenger and ramp handling

He said other areas where the company has made huge investments towards improved service delivery include cargo handling and warehousing as well as deploying appropriate tools and measures for efficiency in aviation security.

Following a successful bid process and eventual privatisation by the Federal Government, management of SAHCOL was handed over to the Sifax Group in December 2009.
