Benue Flood: NEMA Deploys More Teams, Materials

Following directives by President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Friday deployed another humanitarian team to Benue state to support persons affected by the flood that has devastated large parts of the state.

Director General of NEMA, Engineer Mustapha Maihaja said by the presidential order, a contingent of humanitarian officers, headed by Director,Search and Rescue, Air Commodore Paul Ohemu, was dispatched to the State from NEMA’s Headquarters in Abuja to reinforce the teams already on ground.

He said the new team adds to personnel mobilised from the North Central Zonal Office in Jos that has been on ground delivering immediate humanitarian services to affected persons in various locations while also assessing the situation for further support.

A statement by NEMA’s Head Media and Public Relations, Sani Datti said as an emergency response, seven (7) 30 tons trucks have been dispatched to the state and are due to arrive Makurdi today, Friday, September 1, 2017.

The Agency’s boss however sympathized with the affected people, assuring that NEMA would work closely with the Benue State Government to provide them with the necessary succor to alleviate their sufferings.
