BY COBHAM NSA, ABUJA – Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun says no mischief should be read into her official communication with acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu over looted funds recovered by the Federal Government.

Mrs Adeosun said there was nothing unusual about the Minister’s letter, describing it as routine communication aimed at ‘reconciliation and harmonisation of the figures on recovered funds by the Government.’

In a statement by her Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Oluyinka Akintunde in Abuja on Sunday, the Minister stated that some media reports claiming ulterior motive behind the letter were untrue and misleading.

It further said the required information has already been provided by the anti-graft Agency for processing and reconciliation that are on-going.

The full statement titled, ‘Adeosun Clarifies Letter to EFCC Boss on Recovered Funds’ read:

The attention of the Honourable Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has been drawn to media reports misrepresenting her innocuous letter to the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, on cash recoveries by the Federal Government.

  1. The Minister wishes to state explicitly that the letter dated 9thFebruary, 2018, was a standard letter aimed at improving controls over the recovered funds.
  2. There is no ulterior motive behind the letter as alleged in some media reports but to enable the reconciliation and harmonisation of the figures on recovered funds by the Government.
  3. For the avoidance of doubt, the EFCC has subsequently provided the requested information and reconciliation is ongoing.

Signed:
Oluyinka Akintunde
