‘Repentant’ Terrorists Excite Borno Govt
The Borno State Government is excited by the growing number of insurgents currently quitting their dangerous trade and surrendering to the Nigerian Military in the state.
The State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Babakura Abba-Jato, who expressed the State government’s happiness at an expanded security meeting held in Maiduguri on Saturday, August 7, 2021, described it as a welcome development that brings hope to the traumatized people of Borno State and its environs.
Abba-Jato said the government was happy with recent happenings against the backdrop of sustained military onslaughts against the terrorist groups at the shores of Lake Chad and Sambisa Forest.
He said the return of relative peace to many parts of the North-East state has led to restoration of civil authority and normalcy in public life.
According to the Information Commissioner, current events have also contributed to the ongoing efforts at resettling displaced persons back to their ancestral land as well as resumption and expansion of farming activities in recovered areas.
The Nigeria Army recently announced that in the last two weeks, over 100 insurgents have surrendered with their families and weapons in Borno. – With NAN reports
