Reprieve For Embattled Sen Abbo, Gets Police Bail
BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – After cooling his feet for some hours in Police custody, embattled Senator Elisha Abbo, has now been released on bail by the Nigeria Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command.
With pressure still mounting on the Police to prosecute him for criminal assault, the Senator stepped into temporary freedom on Friday after being grant him bail on self-recognition.
The lawmaker, who represents Adamawa North Senatorial district, voluntarily presented himself to the Police for investigation on Thursday, June 4, 2019 following the public outrage that trailed the CCTV footages that went viral.
Police sources confirmed that reprieve came for the Adamawa-born Senator because the victim, expected to testify and officially incident her side of the story was unavailable.
She is reported to have travelled out of Abuja for the burial of a close family member.
However, Police investigations are expected to resume once the woman returns to town.
Caught on camera assaulting a nursing mother at a sex toy shop in Abuja, Senator Abbo has already apologise to Nigerians and his victim, Babara, over the unfortunate incident.
But many Human rights’ activists and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) are cnvassing criminal trial of the lawmaker to serve as a deterrent for those politicians and elite that have become impunity-personified in the country.
